Profile: Founded in 1844, the University at Albany is the oldest institution of public higher education in New York State, and in the State University of New York (SUNY). The University offers a comprehensive set of degree programs from the bachelor’s to the doctorate. There are many opportunities for combined bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Special Features: The University of Albany's RNA Institute was recenty established for the research and discovery of medical interventions and diagnostics aimed at treating diseases. UAlbany is one of only six colleges and universities in New York State with AACSB dual accreditation in Business Administration and Accounting. The University has combined bachelor’s/master’s degree programs which allow admitted students to count up to 12 credits toward completion of both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Additionally, there are 30 combined Bachelor of Arts/Master in Business Administration Degrees which allow admitted students to complete a major in the liberal arts while pursuing course work toward the MBA. There are over 30 departmental honors programs which provide challenging tracks for high academic achievers. The University at Albany offers many opportunities for ambitious students to challenge themselves further through rich, supportive intellectual programs and honor societies. The Honors College at the University at Albany was established to create a vibrant community of scholars where students and faculty work together in a challenging environment to stimulate the highest levels of academic achievement. The Honors College offers a challenging curriculum, exposes students to the very best and most passionate teachers at the University, and mentors students to compete strongly for professional school placement, top jobs in industry, and competitive national scholarships. High-achieving students are recognized at the time of their admission to University at Albany as Presidential or Frederick Douglass Scholars. Scholars receive a merit award ranging from $1,000 - $6,000. All students can select from among dozens of undergraduate research opportunities, numerous special interest housing arrangements on-campus and 450 study-abroad programs offered by the State University system. In addition, Freshmen have a chance to participate in Living-Learning Communities: communities of students who share an interest in a particular theme or intended major and desire to be engaged inside and outside the classroom.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES: The University provides an undergraduate program, as well as advisement and counseling to students interested in careers in medicine, dentistry, or other allied health professions. Additionally, the University has an active pre-law program for students interested in attending law school. Acceptance rates of Albany students to law and medical schools exceed national averages each year.
INTERNSHIPS & STUDY ABROAD: Internships are available to students who have junior or senior class standing, and who have a minimum overall grade point average of 2.5. New York State Senate and Assembly internships take advantage of Albany’s location in the state’s capital. Internships are also available in Washington, D.C. Eighty international programs are available through Albany’s Office of International Programs.
