The Fall 2017 Rockland County College Night will be held at Rockland Community College

Representatives from more than 250 two-year and four-year colleges, nursing schools, business schools and trade schools will participate in the 43rd annual Rockland County College Night on Tuesday, October 17, 2017. College Night will be held at the Field House at Rockland Community College in Suffern. This event is sponsored by the School Counselors of Rockland County in association with Rockland Community College.

Officers and enlisted personnel from the various branches of the military services will also be on hand to discuss the military's enlistment and education programs such as R.O.T.C., the military academies and the GI Bill.

Parents and students are urged to make Rockland County College Night a must on their calendar. The information is free and comprehensive and will save parents and students a great deal of time and effort.

In addition to asking questions, students and parents will be able to set up college interviews, pick up literature and learn about the various financial aid programs available.

Review the list of participating colleges and make a list of the booths you'd like to visit. You might also want to print out some labels or cards with your personal information — name, address, e-mail address, year of graduation, and anticipated major. Give these to the reps at the college booths. This preparation will allow you more time to speak with the representatives and to visit all the colleges on your list.

Parents and students are urged to make Rockland County College Night a must on their calendar. The information is free and comprehensive and will save parents and students a great deal of time and effort.

College Night is most helpful to the student who has done some homework beforehand. We strongly recommend that you visit your school guidance counselor in advance of College Night. Based on your preferences regarding important characteristics such as college major(s), location, size of school, level of competition, religious affiliation, etc., your counselor will help you narrow the list of more than 250 schools to a manageable number. Knowing that the colleges on your list basically meet your requirements, you can use the time with each admissions representative to learn what distinguishes one school from the other. Each institution has a unique personality. Your job is to try to find the schools with personalities which complement your own as much as possible. A college visit later on will confirm or dispel your sense of compatibility.

The Rockland County College Night Program is always highly praised by admissions representatives for the quality of the students (and parents!) it attracts. Year after year we hear that our students are well prepared for the program and that they ask very good questions. We recommend that you read the articles found in this Manual. They will give you a good background for getting the most out of College Night.

There are five special features of our program that we wish to bring to your attention:

First, there are financial-aid experts available throughout the evening in the Northwest corner of the Field House. Look for the large "Financial Aid" sign. A special financial-aid workshop will be given at 8:00 P.M. Just take a seat in the bleachers set up in the financial-aid area. We wish to thank Senator Thomas Morahan and his staff for arranging for the financial-aid program. We also especially wish to thank the financial aid counselors from Rockland Community College for being available to answer your questions. They are located at a table near the bleachers.

Second, guidance counselors from the various high schools in Rockland County will be available all evening at "On-site Counseling" tables, located near the main entrance to the floor of the Field House. They will help you identify schools which might best suit your needs.

Third, special-education counselors are available to help students who are looking for schools with special-education programs. Look for them at tables adjacent to "Counseling Tables."

Fourth, the traditionally and historically Black Colleges will be represented at tables set up along the southeast wall of the Field House.

Finally, the military recruiting services are represented. They are also located along the southeast wall of the Field House. However, you will find the military academies along with the other colleges, listed alphabetically under "United States."

On behalf of the School Counselors of Rockland County and the faculty and staff of Rockland Community College, we wish you well in your efforts to locate those schools which will best suit your needs as you move on to higher education. We hope you find College Night a significant help along the way.
