The Fall 2017 Greater Binghamton College Day will be held at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena

Representatives from approximately 150 two-year and four-year colleges, nursing schools, business schools, and trade schools will participate in the 46th Annual Greater Binghamton College Day on October 18 at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. It is sponsored by the Broome-Tioga Counselors’ Association and the Binghamton City School District.

Officers and enlisted personnel from the various branches of the military services will also be on hand to discuss the military’s enlistment and education programs such as R.O.T.C., the military academies, and the GI Bill.

College admission advisors can answer questions related to their respective institutions and about the college application process. Students can collect a variety of resources to take home as reference material for the college search and application process.

The event is free to students, families, and anyone interested in higher education. College Day provides an ideal venue to speak with admission counselors from a variety of schools who can assist you in making such personal decisions as confirming your interest in a college, ruling out schools that may not offer what you want, and introducing you to schools you may not have previously considered.

Review the list of participating colleges and make a list of the booths you’d like to visit. You might also want to print out some labels or cards with your personal information ” name, address, e-mail, year of graduation, and anticipated major. Give these to the reps at the college booths.

This preparation will allow you more time to speak with the representatives and to visit all the colleges on your list.

Read through the issue of College Fair Guide. There are many articles, charts, useful hints and items of information which will be helpful to you. The more prepared you are for College Day, the more you’ll get out of it.

Deciding what to do after high school is one of the most important decisions that a high-school senior will make. At the National Fair there will be representatives from colleges, universities and technical schools from all over the United States to assist you in making this decision. Going through your mind should be such questions as: "What am I looking for in a college education?"; "What are my career goals?"; and "What do I need to do to achieve those goals?"

For those students who wish to enroll in a college or university, questions involving majors, size of school, costs, and types of extracurricular activities and social life need to be asked and answered.

Students and parents should read as much as possible about the colleges and universities in which they are interested before attending a program like this. If possible, you should get a viewbook or catalog on these institutions ahead of time, or visit the school's Web site and familiarize yourself with the facts that interest you. College representatives are always more eager to discuss their institution with students who seem genuinely interested, and who are somewhat knowledgeable about the school.

Visit first the tables of the colleges in which you are primarily interested. If possible select at least three or four colleges or schools in which you are definitely interested before coming to the College Fair. Plan on visiting with these representatives first. If there is much of a line before a particular school, go to another table and return at a later time. The representatives will be there throughout the times posted for the Fair and you might find that visiting with them when they are not busy will be better for you because they will be able to answer your questions more fully.
