The United Nations Environment Program said that more than 5 million people were employed by the environmental industry in 2005 in the United States alone. That doesn't include the international possibilities!
Green-collar jobs, those that focus on the environment and sustainability, are projected to continue growing as more people become aware of their environmental footprint and as companies understand their impact on the changing climate. Many of these jobs require education in math, engineering and science. Others require different skill sets. Opportunities in this field are expected to continue to grow rapidly.
Several colleges and universities now offer programs in sustainability alongside more traditional pursuits, such as environmental engineering and biology. If interested, do some research on these programs.
