Brooklyn’s M.F.A. Creative Writing Program was recently rated #15 nationally, and its School of Education is rated as one of the top 20 in the nation. The College’s recently opened West Quad Center has state-of-the-art physical education and athletic facilities, including a swimming pool, competition and practice gymnasiums, racquetball courts, a fitness center, and teaching and research labs. It also consolidates student services offices, along with a one-stop services center to maximize convenient access to transactions and information. Construction will begin in summer 2010 on a new $50-million center for the performing arts, which will serve the Conservatory of Music, the Department of Theater and related disciplines. In the coming years, the College will also build a new and expanded, technologically advanced science complex. Research centers include solid-state, solar energy, and nuclear physics laboratories. Other major facilities are an outpatient Speech and Hearing Center, the H. Wiley Hitchcock Institute for Studies in American Music, a professional performing arts center, and sophisticated television and radio production centers.
Brooklyn College’s handsome, twenty-six-acre campus of broad lawns and Georgian-style buildings is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood within easy reach of Manhattan via public transportation. Assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships in all academic areas are available to qualified students. The Magner Center for Career Development and Internships facilitates Web-based job searches through the CUNY Metro job bank and offers a full range of career services. The College typically places more than 1,600 in internships each academic year, giving them a head start toward achieving their career goals. |
Admissions Requirements: Applicants are considered for admission on the basis of their high school academic average, academic units, course selection, SAT/ACT/GED scores. A diploma from an accredited high school, an equivalency diploma, or a United States Armed Forces Institute diploma is required. |
