College students should consider a sleep routine

Tuesday, June 14, 2011
Everybody gets tired. In fact, you're probably pretty sleepy right now. Why wouldn't you be? From a full day of classes and after-school activities, to hanging out with friends and checking your Facebook messages, there is just too much to pack into the day.

One of the first things you’ll discover as a college freshman is that you have a little more freedom when it comes to making your schedule. Depending on what classes you take, this could mean getting to sleep in a few extra hours each morning.

However, not having to get up early should not be an excuse for late night video game sessions with your dorm-mates. In fact, it might be a good idea to establish a sleeping schedule.

In an article for the HuffPost College, a student wrote about her efforts to stick to a strict bedtime routine she created. Although it brought her back to her days in elementary school, her modified schedule helped her hone her time management skills.

According to the Mayo Clinic, adults should receive between seven and nine hours of sleep each night. Even if you do not always feel like a grown-up, this rule applies to you too.ADNFCR-16000756-ID-800530371-ADNFCR
