Winter sports discounts for college students

Monday, January 13, 2014

Although the colder months can bring about a case of the blues in many college students, winter can also provide an excellent opportunity to stay active and enjoy the outdoors while enjoying some enticing student discounts. While some students might look to the South for sun and sand, skiing and snowboarding opportunities abound in numerous locations nationwide.

When it comes to winter sports in the Northeast, Vermont is tough to beat. Boasting many of the region's best skiing and snowboarding resorts such as Sugarbush, Smuggler's Notch and Jay Peak, the Green Mountain State is the perfect destination for students who want to hit the slopes.

At Sugarbush, located in Warren, Vt., students can take advantage of the resort's 2013/14 College Season Pass. The Threesome College Pass offers full-time undergraduate or graduate students (with valid student ID) unlimited skiing and riding at Sugarbush's Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen, and unlimited skiing at Mad River Glen for just $459 for the season. Similarly, the Smuggs Bolton College Pass offers full-time students generous discounts on skiing and snowboarding at both the Smuggler's Notch and Bolton Valley resorts, though prices vary depending on the time of year, so check the official Web site for details.

Boasting some of the most breathtaking scenery in North America, it should come as no surprise that the Rocky Mountains also feature some of the best winter sports activities. Colorado is chock-full of options when it comes to ski resorts, and many locations across the Centennial State offer students generous discounts.

For a full list of mountains that offer reduced rates and season passes for students, check out the official Colorado skiing Web site.

West Coast
Despite being located just four hours away from San Francisco, Lake Tahoe remains one of the best places in the country for winter sports enthusiasts. Boasting no fewer than seven world-class ski resorts, students who want to have some fun in the powder near the West Coast should head for Lake Tahoe during the colder months.

Choosing between Lake Tahoe's resorts can be daunting, but thrifty college students looking for discounts should head for Mount Rose. Every Friday, full-time college students with a valid ID can purchase lift tickets for just $39 online, or $44 if they buy them at the resort. With stunning views and prices to match, Mount Rose is ideal for some winter sports fun before the start of the spring semester. - helping you find colleges and universities that offer the accredited programs that most interest you.
