What exactly is the ROTC?

Tuesday, July 05, 2011
Students who are in the early stages of the college search may have come across the acronym ROTC, which stands for Reserve Officers Training Corps. ROTC is a program that is available to students who wish to serve in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps or Air Force after graduating from college.

For those who are worried that enrolling in a college military program will limit their learning options, the U.S. Army's official Web site, www.goarmy.com, states that Army ROTC is an elective curriculum you take along with your required college classes. While you can major in nearly any academic discipline, the ROTC courses will prepare you with the tools, training and experience that will help you succeed in any competitive environment.

Along with great leadership training, ROTC can pay for your college tuition, too. According to CollegeAnswer.com, a college planning Web site, students who participate in ROTC can be eligible for merit-based scholarships in return for a post-graduation commitment of three or four years, depending on the branch of service.

Participation in ROTC and the subsequent military commitment can provide invaluable experience for any career field that involves managing and motivating others.ADNFCR-16000756-ID-800545056-ADNFCR
