The Army Reserve Officer Training Corps provides lessons in leadership

Tuesday, September 06, 2011
Students who wish to acquire the leadership skills that only the military can provide should consider the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (AROTC) program as part of their college curriculum.

Prospective college students who are willing to serve in the Army may be eligible for the Four-Year AROTC Scholarship, according to goarmy.com. In return for the financial assistance they receive, recipients are required to fulfill an eight-year service commitment upon graduation from college.

The eight-year commitment consists of four years of full-time Army service, as well as an additional four years in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard, the Web site states.

AROTC students' college life will include time spent taking courses that relate to their majors, as well as classes that develop the skills they will require in the Army. The Web site states that individuals will learn what it takes to be an Army officer. AROTC members, or Cadets, will receive the character-building traits of a diverse, self-disciplined civilian education along with tough, centralized leadership development training.

There are more than 1,000 schools that offer college military programs. Visit goarmy.com for a complete list and additional scholarship opportunities.ADNFCR-16000756-ID-800590354-ADNFCR
