Technology enhances college campus life and communication

Thursday, June 02, 2011
A number of students who make the transition from high school to college might be surprised at how different life is on a college campus. Some students might even feel overwhelmed, or have a lot of questions.

To help enhance the communication between students and their colleges and universities, payment processor Heartland Payment Systems' Campus Solutions division has launched CampusAssist, a new digital tool that allows for anonymous text messaging.

CampusAssist allows students to use a five-digit phone number that is monitored by their university's communications center. When the school is notified of a student query or request for help, it can dispatch security or medical staff if needed.

According to company officials, this technology can be of use at college activities, such as stadium events, as well as other aspects of residential life, from dining services to parking.

"CampusAssist provides higher ed institutions with a unique opportunity to stay better connected to their student body, said Fred Emery, vice president and general manager of Heartland Campus Solutions. "With access to anonymous real-time communication, schools become more aware of what's happening on their campuses." ADNFCR-16000756-ID-800522108-ADNFCR
