Special college fairs for students interested in visual and performing arts

Friday, June 15, 2012
Students interested in studying the visual or performing arts typically have an additional piece to their college application: a portfolio review or audition. Fortunately there are special college fairs to help them prepare for admissions to art schools or conservatory programs.

The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) hosts Performing and Visual Arts College Fairs in various cities across the country for students interested in studying subjects like music, theater, dance and graphic design, according to NACAC’s Web site.

Another option for creative students is to attend one of the many National Portfolio Days that are organized each year by the National Portfolio Day Association (NPDA). National Portfolio Day is an opportunity for those who wish to pursue an education in the visual and related arts to meet with representatives from colleges and programs accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

During a National Portfolio Day event, students have an opportunity to share their artwork with college representatives. Students can have finished pieces, sketchbooks, and works in progress reviewed by admissions representatives and receive a brief critique of their work. In addition they will get an idea of what life in a college art program will be like.

College representatives will also be able to answer questions related to their schools’ programs, as well as general queries about careers in the visual arts.

National Portfolio Day does not require visitors to pay a fee or register for the event. However, NACAC recommends that students interested in attending the Performing and Visual Arts College Fairs register beforehand by logging onto the organization’s Web site.ADNFCR-16000756-ID-800798299-ADNFCR - helping you find colleges and universities that offer the accredited programs that most interest you.
