Tuesday, July 24, 2012
If one or both of your parents has served in the military, you are probably familiar with some of the benefits to which veterans are entitled. What you may not realize is that as the child of a service member, you may be eligible for college financial aid opportunities available through the military or military-associated organizations.

In addition to benefits you might receive through the GI Bill you might also be eligible for scholarships designed specifically for military children. Here are just a few organizations that offer such awards:

American Veterans, or AMVETS, is a veterans service organization dedicated to assisting the country’s former service members. This includes providing educational benefits to these individuals’ sons, daughters and grandchildren. Among the awards available is the JROTC scholarship, which provides $1,000 to a high school senior who is a Junior ROTC cadet and is planning to enroll in a college, university, trade or technical school.
