Prevent college application materials from going missing

Monday, December 19, 2011
Once you have sent out all of your college application materials you will probably think that your hard work is over and you can breathe a well deserved sigh of relief. But then a college notifies you that several items are missing from your application packet. If this happens, do not panic. There are steps you can take to ensure that your materials can be retrieved.

According to CollegeBoard.com, a higher education research organization, there is a good chance that the missing information may have been misfiled or is simply lost in the mail.

College Board has some suggestions to ensure that your application remains intact. For instance, name inconsistencies can lead to unnecessary confusion in a school's admission office. If you are going to include your middle name on one document, make sure it appears on all other materials as well so all your paperwork will be filed together.

Staying organized and delivering application materials well ahead of the deadline can help ensure that this information gets processed before it has a chance to get lost in a last minute deluge of admission materials.

Make copies of all the application materials you send. These copies will come in handy should schools require you to resend certain items. Be sure you have backups of everything, from E-mails to canceled checks.

If you are submitting your college application online, always make sure you receive a confirmation after pressing the submit button, according to ACTStudent.org, a Web site for students taking the American College Testing (ACT) assessment. The confirmation provides both you and the admissions department with a way to track your application should it go missing.ADNFCR-16000756-ID-800666607-ADNFCR
