Opt for the most comprehensive campus tour

Friday, September 07, 2012
As part of the college search, the campus tour provides you with an opportunity to go beyond brochures and Web sites and to experience a school firsthand. The campus visit can play a crucial role in determining your college choice, so you may want to opt  for a tour that allows you to not only view, but also to participate in the many aspects of life on campus.

When you schedule your college visits, be sure to ask if there are different tour options available. Typically, a campus tour will include a brief information session followed by a tour of the campus. This will usually take an hour to an hour and a half. On the average tour, you can expect to visit important academic, recreational, residential and dining facilities, while also learning tidbits about the school's history and culture.

More in-depth campus visit options include information days where you can attend presentations by the various offices and departments on campus including admissions, financial aid, resident life and athletics. The Information day program will also include a tour and possibly lunch in the student dining hall. For a more experiential visit, you might decide to attend a program that allows you to shadow a current college student. You will attend classes, take part in extracurricular activities, eat in the dining hall and perhaps stay overnight in a dorm.

Check the "Prospective Student" link on a school’s Web site for all its campus visit options. Then be sure to follow all the contact and registration information to sign up for the visit that best suits your needs.ADNFCR-16000756-ID-800857976-ADNFCR - helping you find colleges and universities that offer the accredited programs that most interest you.
