College Affordability and Transparency Center receives an update

Saturday, July 05, 2014

In 2011, the U.S. Department of Education created  its College Affordability and Transparency Lists to help students and families conduct the college search as educated consumers. On June 30 of this year, the Department of Education announced that the College Affordability and Transparency Center had been updated to more accurately reflect current college costs.

The information contained on this site includes the actual tuition cost as well as the net price when financial aid is factored in for thousands of schools nationwide. Visitors to the site can search using options such as highest tuition and fees at four-year public schools or the rate of change in the tuition since the previous year.

Since the update, students who visit the online College Affordability and Transparency Center have been able to generate more accurate reports that include their preferred type of school, as well as specific colleges and universities that match this preference according to the highest and lowest tuition and net prices.

Overall, making this information available to students is another step in President Barack Obama's attempt to meet his higher education goals for the U.S.

"These lists support our efforts to make college more accessible and to help families make informed decisions on the single most important investment students can make in their own futures," said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in a statement. "Empowering students and families with this information is critical to reaching President Obama's 2020 goal for America to once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world." - helping you find colleges and universities that offer the accredited programs that most interest you.
