Business is the most popular college major

Thursday, July 14, 2011
The Bachelor's degree in Business is consistently one of the most popular college majors, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. In fact, in 2007–08 (the most recent years for which figures are available), 335,000 undergraduate degrees were conferred in business, far surpassing the number in any other field.

So why is it such a hit with students? Some students choose to major in business because of the perceived high salaries. Others hope to open their own business. Whatever your reason, it’s helpful to know what you’ll be studying as you pursue a business degree.

Most students' first year or two of undergraduate study will be dedicated to taking required classes in the arts and sciences. They may also take some introductory courses in their major – “Introduction to Business and Management,” or “Financial Accounting,” for example. In junior year, students will begin to study core business subjects, including finance, marketing and management, according to, a higher education research organization.

If you are considering this major, you should evaluate your personality, your skills and your interests. If you feel you are a natural leader, work well with others, and have strong math and communication skills, you may want to put a check mark next to Business on the intended major section of your college application.ADNFCR-16000756-ID-800552658-ADNFCR - helping you find colleges and universities that offer the accredited programs that most interest you.
