Assess your strengths and weaknesses to help you choose a major

Monday, June 27, 2011
Your dad wants you to become a lawyer and mom would love it if she could tell her friends that you are on your way to becoming a doctor. On the other hand, your friends think you are pretty good with a paint brush and have what it takes to be the art world's next big thing.

But even with all this encouragement, you really have no clue what you want to major in at college.

Students who are unsure of what path to take might take a closer look at their personal strengths and limitations, according to CollegeAnswer.com, a college planning Web site.

CollegeBoard, a higher education research organization, suggests that students think about the day-to-day responsibilities associated with working in a particular field. For instance, you might love reading articles and interviews, but if you do not like talking to people, maybe a career as a journalist is not for you.

Remember, while it may be too early to start stressing out over the future job market, or which professions pay the most, having a good idea of your likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses can be helpful in choosing a college major.ADNFCR-16000756-ID-800539024-ADNFCR
