Ask the tough questions as a philosophy major

Friday, March 30, 2012
If you find yourself analyzing your own actions, or asking questions to which there are no easy answers, it is possible philosophy is meant to be your college major.

When you pursue a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, you will go deeper than you ever have before in search of answers to life’s problems, both large and small. As you learn how to pose pointed questions, you will immerse yourself in the works of the world’s great philosophers including Confucius, Aristotle and Plato.

As a philosophy major you will take courses in ethics, logic, metaphysics and reasoning. You can also expect to learn about the history of philosophy and the various philosophical traditions.

Many students apply the knowledge and skills they acquired in their undergraduate degree to a variety of professions. A degree in philosophy is applicable to roles in the business, legal, government or creative sectors, just to name a few.

If you wish to continue your philosophical studies in order to teach at the college level or to publish scholarly works, you can continue on to graduate school to earn a Master of Arts or Doctor of Philosophy.

In the event that your parents question your decision to pursue a degree in philosophy, you can inform them that former President Bill Clinton holds such a degree.ADNFCR-16000756-ID-800742871-ADNFCR
